The Live Well! project at the Cafe Gallery Projects has now finished. For two years the outside space of the gallery in Southwark park was the Live Well! headquarters for artist Janice Macaulay.
The gravel area was transformed into an allotment with four raised beds to grow vegetables, salads, herbs and flowers.
There were free drop in sessions on Friday mornings for parents and toddlers where participants helped to plant and tend the allotment.
Janice and others also carried out three Live Well! marches in 2009 which you can see in the photos. Participants carried placards suggesting small ways of improving life such as ‘Don’t skip breakfast’, ‘Allow enough time’ and ‘Save the bees’.
The last march was part of the Bermondsey carnival on 11th July 2009 in collaboration with local families and young people. We carried giant vegetables that we made in workshops before the carnival.
The Live Well! project is characterised by four P’s: Peaceful, Positive, Participatory and Purposeful.
The Live Well! project lives on in the hearts and minds of all those who participated and helped out. Janice would particularly like to thank all the staff at Cafe Gallery projects who made her feel so welcome and fully embracedthe spiritof Live Well!
